Mission: Solve One Africa Problem With AI

Welcome to the TNGIMPACT AI Summit 2026 AI Hackathon, the premier student and developer technology competition designed to catalyze grassroots AI innovation across Africa. Our core mission is direct, actionable, and vital: Solve One Africa Problem With AI. This is not a theoretical programming contest, nor is it a showcase of abstract complex algorithms. It is a highly practical, 48-hour builders' arena where university students, software developers, researchers, and creators come together to engineer solutions that alleviate tangible daily challenges in local African communities.

Whether you are a computer science undergraduate in Lagos, a medical student in Accra, a creative designer in Freetown, or an emerging business builder in Johannesburg, this hackathon is built for you. We strongly believe that the most transformational AI systems are not designed by isolated laboratories, but by individuals who experience community issues first-hand. That is why participation in this challenge is 100% free, and we welcome participants from any academic discipline or career background. You do not need to be a coding genius or an AI researcher to build a meaningful system — with the help of modern AI coding assistants, low-code tools, and open API services, anyone can turn an idea into a working MVP.

During the summit, you will gain access to industry mentors, join online workspace dashboards, collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams of up to 4 members (or build solo), and leverage tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and v0 to build, test, and package your prototype. Every submission is publicly showcased, giving you a global stage to share your work with potential recruiters, sponsors, and peers.

Scope of Projects

What Can You Build?

The technology is not the challenge. The problem is. We welcome systems across any digital format that utilize AI to solve a real issue.

Web Applications

AI-powered dashboards, responsive SaaS prototypes, student portals, or localized utility sites built with modern frameworks.

Mobile Applications

Android, iOS, or progressive web apps delivering localized offline-first AI solutions for rural communities.

AI Agents & Workflows

Autonomous helper bots, SMS AI response agents, or automated database workflows that simplify complex administrative tasks.

Browser & Developer Tools

Chrome extensions, VS Code plug-ins, or automation scripts that speed up user productivity and information access.

Regional Context

Why Solve an African Problem?

Africa is currently undergoing a massive digital transformation, driven by the youngest population in the world. However, many foundational sectors—including agriculture, education, healthcare, and public service delivery—remain constrained by systemic bottlenecks, structural language barriers, and infrastructure constraints.

For instance, local small businesses frequently struggle with complex digital bookkeeping and high credit barriers. Smallholder farmers lack instant access to micro-climate analysis and crop disease detection in native dialects. Students navigate under-resourced learning environments with high mentor-to-student ratios.

By focusing your AI solutions on these specific localized issues, you help bridge the digital divide. Your application can translate materials into local languages (Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Twi, Zulu), automate business micro-invoicing, or guide university candidates through complex admissions processes.

Core Focus Domains

Education & Universities: Personalized study mentors, automated exam preparation coaches, and library indexing systems.
Agriculture & Food Security: Pest warning indicators, soil health advice engines, and market supply optimization algorithms.
Work & Micro-Enterprises: Localized marketing writers, automated invoice tracers, and database helpers for small vendors.
Project Inspiration

Ideas to Inspire You

Need a starting point? Here are some illustrative examples of projects that align with the challenge goals (you are free to build other ideas).

1. AI Final Defence Coach

An interactive simulator that lets university undergraduates upload their graduation research thesis and mock-defend it before a virtual AI panel, getting questions and structure advice.

2. AI Opportunity Matcher

A utility that matches African youth and students to relevant global internships, scholarships, and fellowships by scanning academic CVs and analyzing local eligibility rules automatically.

3. AI Farmer Advisor

An audio-to-text WhatsApp bot that allows smallholder farmers to speak in local dialects (like Yoruba, Twi, or Zulu) and receive AI-generated recommendations for crop diseases or market price predictions.

4. AI SME Billing Automator

A lightweight Progressive Web App that generates professional digital quotes, tracks outstanding customer payments, and sends automatic reminder drafts via text for small merchants.
